What is Membrane Waterproofing?
Membrane waterproofing uses a continuous sheet of reinforced bitumen, EPDM, TPO, or PVC laid over the roof slab to form a single, seamless barrier against water ingress.
Unlike liquid coatings, membranes are factory-manufactured to a consistent thickness and tensile strength – meaning predictable performance, longer service life, and easier inspection. They’re the default specification for flat concrete roofs across Dubai’s residential, commercial, and industrial portfolio.

Surface Preparation
Clean the substrate – remove dust, oil, laitance, sharp edges. Repair cracks, honeycombs, and voids with approved mortar. Surface must be smooth and dry.

Primer Application
Apply bituminous primer at 0.3–0.5 L/m² by brush or roller. Allow 4–6 hours to dry tack-free. Enhances adhesion between membrane and concrete.

Membrane Installation
Unroll and align bituminous membrane. Heat the underside with a gas torch to bond. Side laps 100 mm, end laps 150 mm. Roller-press to remove air.

Detailing & Corners
Reinforce corners, joints, and upturns with extra strips. Seal around drains, pipes, and penetrations with additional patches and mastic.

Protection Layer
Apply geotextile sheet, protection board, or screed to prevent mechanical damage from following trades.

Flood Testing
Perform a flood test for 24–48 hours to confirm zero leakage before any finishing is applied.

Finishing
Apply protective screed (min. 40 mm) or install tiles, pavers, or insulation as the project requires.
